Nature Architects

Nature Architects is a company that utilizes existing manufacturing facilities to create advanced designs.

Nature Architects

Introduction

The majority of cutting-edge designs, including Generative Design, propose complex shapes that can only be manufactured using Additive Manufacturing (AM). However, Nature Architects offers design proposals and blueprints tailored to the manufacturing capabilities of their client companies, collaborating on development from prototyping to mass production. By incorporating the constraints of the client's manufacturing facilities into their design and analysis workflows, they can propose solutions that surpass traditional products in functionality and reduce manufacturing costs compared to conventional products. This allows for the realization of advanced designs while utilizing existing manufacturing facilities. However, even today, many people mistakenly believe that they are a company specializing in designing for 3D printers, as they introduced numerous design cases utilizing AM more than three years ago. In this article, I hope to dispel this misunderstanding by presenting the latest design cases.

Mass-producible Metamaterials

A few years ago, metamaterial descriptions featured three-dimensional structures that could only be formed using Additive Manufacturing (AM). However, nowadays, they frequently showcase examples that can be manufactured through press forming, as shown in the figure below. These cases not only offer lightweight and high-rigidity solutions like the ones mentioned above but also provide structural concepts capable of various deformation controls, such as stiffness regulation and deformation mode control.

Moreover, in some instances, they conduct in-house preliminary manufacturability assessments, such as flow analysis during injection molding, as shown in the figure below, and proceed with the design accordingly.

Introducing 2022 Design Cases

Over the past year, Nature Architects has been primarily advancing projects with major suppliers and OEMs in the mobility industry [1]. Although the actual projects fall within the scope of non-disclosure agreements and cannot be specifically introduced, we will present a design case that exemplifies the company's design capabilities. They successfully integrated and simultaneously lightened a bracket composed of three conventional metal parts joined by welding. In this example, as shown in the image, a 12 percent weight reduction and a decrease in the number of components allowed for improvements in both manufacturability and functionality.

2021-2022 Design Cases

Nature Architects has been offering a wide range of solutions in the mobility field, including shock absorption, vibration damping, noise reduction, heat dissipation, and productivity improvement. In addition, since most projects assume mass-production facilities, their designs can provide high added value by achieving not only improved functionality of components and products but also cost reduction and weight reduction simultaneously.

In Conclusion

Nature Architects is pushing forward with designs that provide significant value in the design of components and products at the core of various manufacturing industries, not limited to the mobility sector, but also including construction, home appliances, and aerospace. Please continue to look forward to Nature Architects' innovative designs in various industries in the future.
